May 24, 2012 Race Previews 2 Wu at Busselton Ironman 70.3 - Photo by Graeme Gillmer The Cairns Airport Festival kicks off this Sunday with the Coral Coast 5150 Triathlon (which also includes a sprint and enticer distance) at Port Douglas. This weekend will also host the RRR Mountain bike challenge and Hekili Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge. The weekend long festival will take in other events such as the Quicksilver Reef Swim (Thursday), The Cairns Post Run (Friday), McDonalds Ironkids Triathlon (Saturday), and culminating with the Urban Hotel Ironman 70.3 Cairns, and the Cairns Airport Ironman on Sunday. The Coral Coast triathlon has been around for 31 years, and this is the first year that the World Triathlon Corporation’s 5150 title has been attached to the event. Michelle Wu goes into the race as the favourite, and will be using this race as a lead into next weekend’s Cairns 70.3 event. Last year’s victor, Emily Donker from Queensland, will be back to defend her title, but will have her work cut out for her against the speedy Wu. This will be an age groupers race on the weekend – and a favourite on the racing calendar. We will be previewing the 70.3 and Ironman events next week. 2 Responses Luke Gillmer May 25, 2012 Might be a windy race, Sheely put a great video on twit today of a tree blowing sideways. Reply admin May 25, 2012 Weather looks shocking. The Mountain Bike race has been postponed to next week! Let’s hope it settles for the other races this weekend and next.
